There’s been a long history of reef surveys in the northwestern Hawaiian islands, yet almost all have been restricted to the upper 100 feet because of the dangers of breathing air in lower depths. An ʻŌiwi TV film crew joined a NOAA research vessel in September 2012 to document Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument as they explore 100 to 400 feet below sea level.
