Join us for the 49th Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival, presented by the Moanalua Gardens Foundation.
For nearly five decades, the Prince Lot Hula Festival has brought together generations of kumu hula, dancers, musicians, cultural practitioners, and community members in celebration of one of Hawaiʻi’s most treasured cultural traditions. Established by the Moanalua Gardens Foundation in 1978, the festival honors Prince Lot Kapuāiwa, Kamehameha V, who helped perpetuate hula and other traditional practices during a pivotal period in Hawaiian history and hosted gatherings featuring hula at his summer home in Moanalua.
The festival also carries forward a much older cultural legacy in Moanalua. Kamananui and the surrounding ahupuaʻa have long been associated with hula and oli, with traditions extending back to the time of Ke Aliʻi Kākuhihewa in the 1600s. The annual festival was created to honor this history while providing a place for hālau to share hula as a living expression of Hawaiian knowledge, genealogy, language, and culture.
Recorded in 2026 at the Royal Hawaiian Center at Helumoa, the 49th Annual Prince Lot Hula Festival continues this legacy with hālau sharing mele and hula in a non-competitive celebration that brings together kumu hula and practitioners from across Hawaiʻi.
