Rachel Nahaleelua Mahuiki, one of Hanalei’s most beloved kūpuna, leads Larry Kimura and a group of Hawaiian language teachers on a tour of Hā‘ena, Kaua‘i.
The trip includes visits to the wet and dry caves, the famous peak, Makana, and a walk on the reef where Rachel shows how to gather and eat seafood such as loli, wana, heʻe and limu.
The program is a lively portrait of a vivacious woman who shares her experiences and, in the process, teaches Hawaiian values.
NĀ MAKA O KA ʻĀINA
We are Joan Lander and Puhipau (1937-2016) of Nā Maka o ka ‘Āina (“The Eyes of the Land”), an independent video production team that, since 1981, has focused on the land and people of Hawai‘i and the Pacific.
