Hōkūleʻa sails across the Indian Ocean and arrives in South Africa, the birthplace of humanity.

Hōkūleʻa crewmembers dive the Great Barrier Reef, before leaving Australia to sail into the Indian Ocean and arriving in Bali, Indonesia.

Hōkūleʻa and her crew reach out to the community of Aotearoa, sharing the waʻa with thousands of people, before leaving Polynesia to cross the Tasman Sea and arrive at Sydney, Australia.

Hōkūleʻa completes her journey through Polynesia as she arrives in Aotearoa for the second time in her history, 29 years later after first arriving in 1985.

As Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia sailed throughout the Pacific - from Hawaiʻi, to Tahiti, and finally Sāmoa - the crews found a common thread throughout all the communities they visited: that we are all ʻohana.
