SCROLl TO DISCOVER

This segment features Hāwane Rios and Lākea Trask singing “Kanaloa Ola,” a song composed on Kahoʻolawe.

ʻŌiwi TV presents “Mele ma ka Mauna”, an original series celebrating the unique movement and Kapu Aloha around the Thirty Meter Telescope construction on Mauna a Wākea. Set up at Hale Pōhaku on Maunakea, Mele ma ka Mauna brings together musicians and artists from all over Hawaiʻi pae ʻāina performing traditional mele ʻai pōhaku, or songs of sovereignty, alongside new original compositions. These performances were shot live, and were done with aloha ʻāina sentiments. Each group brought their songs and hula with intentions of celebrating the invaluable resources that Maunakea offers the people of Hawaiʻi.
