Moana: He Mana ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi

Following in the achievement of Tahitian and Maori dubbing of the Disney feature, Moana, a Hawaiian version has been released this Summer of 2018! ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi is the 46th language version of Moana, and will be used as an educational tool to promote the Hawaiian language. In this ʻŌiwiTV news piece, we hear from the actors and Hawaiian language experts who worked on the dubbing process about their translation, transmission, and presentation of Moana ma ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, and what this accomplishment means for Hawaiian language awareness and normalization.

About the production:
The Hawaiian-language version of Moana is being produced by the University of Hawaiʻi Academy for Creative Media (ACM) System in collaboration with Walt Disney Character Voices International. The production involves the collaboration of faculty and staff from three UH campuses.
