Pōhai Moʻolelo

SCROLl TO DISCOVER

Pōhai Moʻolelo is a five-month Hawaiian language media internship program that provides immersive, hands-on training across all stages of multimedia production. Interns work alongside the ʻŌiwi TV team to develop applied skills in videography, audio recording, studio production, editing, scripting, subtitling, and digital content workflows within a professional environment. A core component of the program is the use of Hawaiian-language archival sources—such as newspapers and oral histories—as foundational reference materials for research, story development, and cultural grounding. Throughout the program, interns participate in guided instruction, technical workshops, and real production assignments that contribute to the creation of new Hawaiian-language media.

Ideal applicants should note the following:

  • Fluency in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi is strongly preferred, as all production and research activities center Hawaiian-language sources and workflows.
  • We welcome applicants who are junior- or senior-level undergraduates, graduate students, or working professionals (e.g., kumu, archivists, natural resource managers, etc.) from all academic and professional backgrounds, bringing diverse experiences, perspectives, and skill sets that strengthen collaborative discussions and production processes.
  • Select workshops will be conducted virtually, allowing participants to join training sessions remotely when appropriate.
  • Filming and in-person production activities will take place on Oʻahu, and interns must be available for on-site work during scheduled shoots.
  • A stipend will be provided upon successful completion of the five-month program, supporting interns as they engage in training and production responsibilities.
  • Interns will be expected to participate fully in both behind-the-scenes work and on-camera roles, including pre-production development, research, storyboarding, and producing, as well as appearing in segments where appropriate

Application Deadline: December 12, 2025
