When community members take over Waiʻanae school classrooms for a day, students learn lessons about their environment, culture, and history. With a musical introduction by Manu Kahaialiʻi, this video features Eric Enos with a presentation on the traditional Hawaiian ahupuaʻa system of land management; Iokepa Tenorio teaching a chant and hula to a class of high school boys; and Poka Laenui revealing the history of events concerning the overthrow of the Hawaiian government in the late 1890s.
